The credit crunch is turning Brits into a nation of culinary geniuses - because they can no longer afford to eat out.
A study found three quarters of us now regularly enjoy the 'restaurant experience' in the comfort of our own home rather than go out for expensive meals.And a similar number believe they have 'upped their game' in the cooking stakes over the last 12 months while trying to save money by staying in.Before the global financial crisis the average Brit treated themselves to three meals out every month.Now more than two thirds visit a restaurant just once a month.
But the poll of 3,000 Brits also found that before they started watching their pennies, the average Brit cooked a nice meal from scratch just twice a month.
